The following list of insurance brokers or Australian Financial Service Licence Holders
is intended to be a guide to
B&B and Farmstay operators in selecting the most appropriate insurance
policy to meet their individual insurance needs. The publication of this
list is not intended to indicate the approval of the Association of all or
any of those brokers/insurers listed. Operators must make their own
judgement as to the broker/insurer they use.
In choosing a broker or licence holder, a number of issues have to be considered:
- The cost of the cover measured against its extent - lists of inclusions and exclusions etc
- The financial strength/reputation of the underwriter of the policy
- Any known information about the way the broker and the underwriter deal with claims
- Your own experience of the broker; friendliness; responsiveness; timeliness etc
A point to bear in mind is that the broker must know that the
insurance is for a property that is operating as a B&B or Farmstay.
It is not sufficient to ask for a standard home and contents insurance
policy. The operator must, as a condition of membership of the Association
have adequate public and product liability insurance. Public liability
covers the operator for any personal injury that might occur to anyone who
visits the property; product liability covers the operator against any
"injury" caused by the use of any "product" supplied
while resident on the property.
All the brokers in this list have experience of insuring
properties in our industry though not all will offer a full and complete
range of cover for all risks an operator may require. All operators and
those with on-property activities are strongly advised to assess all
these issues in the context of the individual risk profile of their
property and the extent of the cover necessary. Ultimately, the choice
of broker and insurance company/underwriter has to be made by the individual operator.
The following list is in alphabetical order and the Association makes
no guarantee implied or otherwise that any one organisation will fully
meet the operator's business risk needs, nor is it implied that an
organisation not listed is unable to provide the cover necessary.
