BBFA Inc National Gift Voucher Overview

Gift Vouchers Australia Wide

The Board of Bed & Breakfast and Farmstay Australia Inc has adopted a national gift voucher program. The purpose of the national voucher is that it can be redeemed throughout Australia with any participating financial member of a state association.

The purchaser will receive the voucher, a generic brochure promoting the appeal of travelling Australia staying in accommodation alternatives provided by association members and the accommodation guide or guides of the state in which the voucher is likely to be used. This makes the voucher a particularly attractive alternative gift for interstate friends and relatives. A facsimile of the national gift voucher is printed at the foot of this message. The vouchers will be issued by the BBFA Office.

The national vouchers will replace the voucher programs already in operation in New South Wales, ACT, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. Members in those states who are presented with a state voucher may still accept them as long as they are valid and return them to their state office for reimbursement as usual.

Timetable:

The sale of national gift vouchers commenced on Monday, 4 December 2006.

Promotion:

The vouchers will be promoted through the national website, your state association website, your state accommodation guide and other carefully selected outlets. A full promotional program in other marketing outlets will be rolled out progressively.

Member Participation:

It is hoped that all members will participate in this service to the travelling public. There is an administration charge of 10% of the value of voucher, plus GST, payable to BBFA for the administration of the program. This will cover the costs associated with the sale and redemption of the vouchers, consumables, printing and mailing. When you forward a gift voucher to the BBFA Office, reimbursement less the administration fee will be made to you within 7 working days, maximum. You can nominate whether payment should be made directly into your bank account or by cheque. You will also receive a tax receipt for the amount of the administration charge.

The vouchers are a very popular product with the general public and may generate out-of-season or midweek bookings. It is important to note that purchasers of the vouchers will consult the state accommodation guides and websites in order to select where they wish to stay. If you do not wish to participate in the program and you are approached to redeem a voucher it would be helpful if you could direct the enquirer to your state association website or a fellow member.

Participating members are encouraged to use the "Buy Now" image above on your website and link it through to the ordering page at:

The more the Australian Gift Vouchers are promoted the more potential benefit all will receive!

Conditions of Use (for Voucher Holders):

The Conditions of Use are printed on the back of each voucher.

  • Voucher holders are advised to consult the state accommodation guide or website to select where they wish to stay.
  • The Conditions stipulate that the holder of the voucher must advise the member that they wish to use a voucher, and the value of the voucher, at the time of enquiring about a booking.
  • Voucher holders are advised to book well ahead and that there may be a greater choice available to them if they elect to travel mid-week.
  • Voucher holders are advised that vouchers can be used as a deposit if the tariff is greater than the value of the voucher.
  • It is preferable that vouchers are accepted by members at all times, but members may choose not to accept a voucher during school and public holidays.
  • Vouchers must be redeemed before the expiry date which is twelve months from the date of purchase, however, a voucher may be used as a deposit for a booking which occurs after the date of expiry provided that the voucher is presented to the member before the expiry date and the member forwards it immediately to the BBFA Office for redemption.
  • No cash refund is to be given to the client if the voucher is for an amount greater than the total tariff.

Information for Members:

  • Vouchers will be numbered and recorded by BBFA on a register. They will be issued in units of $100, $50, $25 with a minimum purchase of $100.
  • When a gift voucher is purchased, GST is not charged because the voucher is not officially classified as a good or service. However upon redemption of a voucher the recipient must pay the GST inclusive price.
  • Gift vouchers are issued with an expiry date, as indicated on the voucher. Once the voucher has expired we are unable to extend the expiry date under any circumstance. It is the voucher holder's responsibility to ensure that it is redeemed before the expiry date.
  • The client will receive a voucher, the conditions of use and the accommodation guide or guides for the states in which the voucher is to be redeemed. They will also be directed to the BBFA website for details of members across all state associations.
  • The client will make a mutually convenient booking with a member, stating that they hold a gift voucher which they wish to use as the deposit on the booking
  • The member will accept the voucher in part payment of the deposit or payment for the booking. The tariff quoted by the member will be their normal quoted tariff, seasonal variations accepted.
  • No part of the voucher is redeemable for cash, but if the tariff is lower than the amount of the voucher, it would be a hospitable gesture to provide an extra by way of a platter of fruit, bottle of wine, chocolates, etc. to ensure that the voucher holder feels that they have received good value.
  • The member will claim the amount of the voucher from BBFA by sending the original to BBFA, PO Box 422, Eltham Victoria 3095. The member will be reimbursed for the value of the voucher less 10% plus GST administration fee. The reimbursement will be made within 7 working days either directly into the member's bank account or by cheque. A tax invoice for the administration fee will be sent to the member. It is recommended that the member makes a copy of the voucher for their records prior to mailing the original to the BBFA Office.
  • Vouchers can only be redeemed by participating and financial members of a BBFA state association. If a business ceases to be a member of its state association in accordance with that association's rules, it cannot participate in the program and BBFA will not redeem vouchers submitted by that business. The voucher holder must be informed that the business is unable to accept the voucher and the voucher must not be accepted after membership has lapsed.
  • Important Note: The BBFA accommodation gift vouchers are professionally printed, trimmed and numbered individually, do not accept a voucher that looks as if it has been reproduced in poor quality on a home printer.
